This feature provides perspective on the toughest challenge of pastoral ministry: tending your own inner life, managing the emotional load of life in the ministry, keeping "a thick skin and a tender heart," and preparing the heart for real contact with the real God. Sustainable Faith is an arm of Vineyard Central Church in Cincinnati that offers rejuvinating retreats and spiritual direction for Vineyard leaders.
Dave travels and teaches frequently on the topics of spiritual formation, spiritual exercise, community, and incarnational ministry. For the last three years he has served with Vineyard-USA as the spiritual director for Pastors Sabbath Retreats. (Click here to visit the Sustainable Faith web site.) He was the founding pastor of Vineyard Central and now works with her house church pastors.
Dave is currently being trained at a Mennonite Seminary in the area of spiritual direction. In 2007 he begins working with the D.Min. students at George Fox University as a spiritual director.
He and his wife Jody, who have been married for 30 years, have three children: Kimberly (in Berlin), Carrie (in New York), and Jonathan (getting ready to leave the nest). The Nixons live on the third floor of the former convent of the St. Elizabeth Church parish.
